A trigeminal nerve block is a pain management procedure where a doctor injects anesthetic into the trigeminal nerve located in the head and responsible for carrying sensation from the face to the brain. The block temporarily numbs the these nerves and can help relieve facial pain. It's used to treat trigeminal neuralgia, herpes zoster infection (or shingles) affecting the face, and other atypical facial pain syndromes.
