A total laparoscopic hysterectomy (TLH) is a minimally-invasive procedure to remove the uterus and cervix. The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and uses a laparoscope to help detach the uterus from the ovaries, fallopian tubes and upper vagina. The uterus and cervix are then removed through the vagina. The surgeon may also remove one or both fallopian tubes (salpingectomy), and one or both ovaries (oophorectomy). This procedure can help treat abnormal or heavy vaginal bleeding, severe pain with menses, fibroids, pelvic pain, uterine prolapse and cervical or uterine cancer.
