Tonsils removal, also known as tonsillectomy, and ear tubes, also known as BMT, is a two-part surgical procedure. The tonsillectomy is performed to remove infected tonsils and involves the removal of the two small masses of tissue located at the back of the throat. A tonsillectomy may be recommended if a patient has reoccurring throat infections, swollen neck glands or drainage from the tonsils. The ear tubes surgery involves draining the fluid from the middle ear and placing temporary tubes in the eardrum. A BMT may be recommended if a patient battles reoccurring ear infections.
