Tonsils and adenoids removal, also known as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, and tongue-tie revision, also known as frenuloplasty, is a three-part surgical procedure.
A tonsillectomy involves the removal of the two small masses of tissue located at the back of the throat. A tonsillectomy may be recommended if a patient has reoccurring throat infections, swollen neck glands or drainage from the tonsils.
An adenoidectomy involves the removal of the adenoids, which are small masses of tissue located behind the nose.
A frenuloplasty is a procedure used to treat tongue-tie (ankyloglossia), a condition that restricts the movement of the tongue and can cause speech impediments and difficulties with chewing, swallowing, and other aspects of oral function. This procedure involves the surgical revision of the lingual frenulum (the line of tissue that connects the tongue to the bottom of the mouth) and may be recommended for more complex cases of ankyloglossia that cannot be treated with a frenotomy.
