Tonsils and adenoids removal, also known as tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy, is a two-part surgical procedure. The tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are performed to remove infected tonsils and adenoids. The tonsillectomy involves the removal of the two small masses of tissue located at the back of the throat. A tonsillectomy may be recommended if a patient has reoccurring throat infections, swollen neck glands or drainage from the tonsils. The adenoidectomy involves the removal of the adenoids, which are small masses of tissue located behind the nose.
