A tendon sheath or joint capsule lesion removal is a procedure that involves removal of a noncancerous mass in the hand or wrist. During the procedure, the doctor makes an incision over the tendon, and either cuts away or loosens (releases) the sheath.
This procedure can be performed in-office for less complicated cases. For more complex cases, the doctor may request that an outpatient procedure be performed in a surgery center or operating room.
