Port-a-cath removal involves the removal of a small device under the skin on the right side of the chest. The device is attached to a small tube, called a catheter, that connects to a large vein in the heart. When the doctor no longer needs to access a certain vein within the heart for medications or surgeries, they will remove this tube.
