A lumbar radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a pain management procedure that uses radio waves to stop the lumbar medial branch nerve from transmitting pain signals from the injured facet joint to the brain. During the procedure, a doctor inserts a needle into the skin and uses X-ray imaging to guide the needle to the correct site overlying the medial branch nerve.
