A lumbar laminectomy with foraminotomy/facetectomy is a surgical procedure that involves removing part of the lamina, the back part of the vertebra (small bones that make up the spine). During the foraminotomy, the surgeon re-opens the foramina (gaps in the spinal joints) when they have been narrowed by an overgrowth of bone. This surgery can relieve pressure on the spinal cord and nerve roots to alleviate pain.
