A diagnostic laryngoscopy with biopsy is a surgical procedure to look at the larynx (voice box), including the vocal cords and nearby structures like the back of the throat. During the procedure, a small tube with a camera is passed through the nose down the throat to reach the vocal cords. The camera helps the doctor view and diagnose any abnormalities within the throat or larynx. The doctor will take biopsy samples of the vocal cords or nearby parts of the throat to test for abnormalities. This does not involve the removal or treatment of any issues that the doctor may locate during the surgery.
