Laparoscopic salpingectomy and/or oophorectomy is a minimally-invasive procedure to remove to remove one (unilateral) or both (bilateral) of the ovaries and fallopian tubes. The surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and uses a laparoscope to help detach the ovaries and fallopian tubes from the uterus and upper vagina. The ovary(ies) and fallopian tube(s) are then removed through the vagina. The procedure can help with symptoms such as pain or discomfort from ovarian masses or cysts, and may also be recommended preventively if at high risk for ovarian cancer or certain breast cancers.
