A laparoscopic gastric sleeve surgery, also called a sleeve gastrectomy, is a type of weight loss surgery where about 80% of the stomach is removed, leaving a tube-shaped stomach about the size and shape of a banana. The part of the stomach that remains connects to the esophagus and small intestine, forming the shape of a sleeve. This procedure is typically performed laparoscopically, which involves inserting small instruments through multiple small incisions in the upper abdomen to remove part of the stomach. Limiting the size of the stomach restricts the amount of food you are able to consume.
