A knee arthroscopy with lysis of adhesions is a minimally-invasive surgical procedure to restore near normal knee function by removing all abnormal soft tissue connections and scar tissue. During the procedure, the doctor uses surgical tools to cut bands of abnormal tissue called adhesions, and remove scar tissue and tightness in the knee. Scar tissue can form in the knee joint after an injury or prior surgery. Adhesions in the knee can form between the knee components and surrounding soft tissue spaces over time.
