An echocardiogram (or "echo") is an ultrasound of the heart -- a non-invasive imaging procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of structures in the heart. This procedure may also use doppler echocardiography to record the speed and direction of blood flow in the arteries of your heart. Doctors use this information to identify different types of heart disease.
