A cone biopsy of cervix is a surgical procedure in which a doctor uses a laser or scalpel to cut out a cone-shaped portion of abnormal cells on the cervix, or burn off abnormal cells with an electric looped wire (LEEP). Dilation and curettage (removal of tissue from inside the uterus) may also be performed. This procedure is used to diagnose or treat precancerous cells in the cervical area.
