Cervical or thoracic radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a procedure to reduce the ability of nerves to transmit pain. When this technique is used around the cervical spine, it can be effective at reducing neck and upper back pain. The procedure is often used after a successful medial branch block (MBB) to identify the source of pain. It is also called thoracic facet thermal coagulation or rhizotomy.
