An ankle brachial index (ABI) test is a simple and non-invasive diagnostic procedure to identify peripheral artery disease (PAD). PAD is caused by narrowed or blocked arteries the prevent blood from flowing steadily to your extremities. During the test, your blood pressure will be measured in both arms and ankles while a physician listens to your blood flow via ultrasound. This information is used to calculate your ABI.
